Gas stations are found everywhere in cities, suburbs, small towns, and along highways. They are a very visible symbol of our dependence on fossil fuels and the automobile.
The Future Station Project reimagines gas stations in the transition to electric vehicles and alternative modes of transit. This provides an opportunity for the adaptive reuse of stations as mobility hubs, resilience hubs, micro freight hubs, and other uses through 9 prototypes of urban, rural, and highway stations. A short film and this website were developed to share ideas widely with communities and planners.
The Future Station Project was featured in the Spring 2024 issue of Metropolis magazine in print and online. The project was listed in Metropolis Magazine among 32 Adaptive Reuse Projects for a Better Future.
In 2026, I’ll be studying the urban design of multimodal mobility hubs, where people transfer between different modes of transit. I have been selected as a Senior Fellow for MIT’s Mobility Initiative. Their Senior Fellows program identifies a small cohort of individuals to contribute to ward scholarship that advances safe, clean and inclusive mobility systems. I’ll be presenting the research at the MIT Mobility Initiative conference later this year.
